From the start, nature has been my inspiration.
My first oil painting was a scene in Yosemite National Park. When I began painting, we lived at the ocean and I found this an inspiring subject as well as mountains and trees. Now I am fortunate enough to live in rural Washington State where, as a painter, I can have all three.
I have been oil painting off and on for over 40 years, and am for the most part self taught, outside of studying Walter Foster publications to determine which colors work well in nature.
My favorite artist is Vincent Van Gogh. I have been moved by the sense of freedom in his paintings, freedom from the rules of his time, and by the intense energy he portrayed in nature.
