I am currently working in pastel–mostly large-scale pieces. I work from photographs, taken by myself, as I like to have my perspective involved in every aspect of my process. Context is crucial for me as well. I am most interested in rendering the story of the people in each image. I want to focus my viewers on the emotional aspect of the piece by using light and color to set the tone, and the gesture of the figures to tell the story. I want my art to evoke the question, “what could be going on here to make these people feel this way?” However, I never want to be so specific that the question can be clearly answered.
