“My interest in art started when I was around 7 years old. Learning alone at home, I began sketching models from fashion magazines, emphasizing the details of their clothes and the emotion held in their eyes. I wanted to become proficient in sketching a variety of different expressions whilst enhancing the feeling I believe these images were trying to communicate. Later, I expanded my work to include animals, romance and architecture. Today I sketch a wide variety of pieces, from the fantastic and colourful to the deep and minimalistic.”

I have always been impressed by graphite and its simplicity. I find it amazing that something so common as a pencil can make such an impact visually. I have a degree in Business Management and have been working full-time in construction/higher education, but my heart and soul comes from my creative side and I am so happy to finally be investing my time and energy into it.

“My artwork is primarily portraits and my focus is “family”. With every piece I complete there is a story, a connection, a memory, or lost loved one. There is so much history that is overlooked or forgotten and I hope my images evoke those memories and create heirlooms that can be passed from generation to generation.”

I believe that life is too short to spend it doing anything other than what you’re passionate about, so late last year I decided (with some encouragement from my wife) to throw myself into my art, and see what I can do.

I am attracted to the world of realism and (though I’m not there yet) hyper-realism, which is the creation of images that go beyond what we can see in a photograph, and influenced by the work of modern artists Denis Peterson, Paul Cadden, Armin Mersmann, and many others. I strive to create works that draw the viewer in with levels of detail and in doing so, establish a connection, understanding, and respect of the subject.
