Meet Featured Artist, Steven June. His expressive mixed media style is full of energy, contrast and color.

“My paintings depict the chaos of the destruction of the California as well as the hypothetical aerial view of mass congestion. I find the Thomas Guide rather inspiring. I have a BA from The University of California, Santa Barbara, in Printmaking.

Use of oil paint and occasionally mixed media to create a conceptual, interpretive Scape. Layers and layers of paint.”

My art is a combination of my own photography and editing using digital art tools. I am inspired by nature, music, film, other artworks, and emotion. I tend to use dark colors with flickers of brightness to create atmospheric images with a sense of depth.

I’m a self taught artist inspired early on by the great artists J.M.W.Turner, Andrew Wyeth and the French impressionists. I get inspiration sometimes from the smallest things; a shadow falling across a roof line, a line from a song or something someone has spoken to me passing. And trees…I love trees. They speak to me.

Hello, I started doing art since I was 3 years old. At age 8 I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, When I was 8 I was kidnapped overseas by my father. My autoimmune disease got worse to a point that caused me to have 2 liver transplant surgeries. I had many episodes of blood loss and was in a coma for a week. During my 34 years of life I learned to channel my health and trauma into art. My way of communication is my artwork and each piece is a representation and reflection of my life.

I use alcohol markers and graphite on paper board.

I graduated from fine art (DIT) in 2014 specifying in drawing and print. I then graduated from the National College of Art and Design with a professional masters in education and art.

I exhibited in the complex gallery in 2013 with a student retrospective. I then exhibited in DIT graduation show in 2014 and againin the NCAD gallery in 2016.

My work comes from the reading of Jung Carl, the Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. In my present work, there is a repeated motif – that of the literal example of the phrase, “to grin and bear it”. This identifies how animals will bear their teeth when there is danger or a spike in their anxiety levels. I incorporate this with the teachings of Jung Carl in my figurative works.

It is when we allow ourselves to create and we do not expect anything that we are unstoppable beings. I share my art to the world because it is what I love, what I create in the most raw moments. Sometimes its almost painful the point at which you can lose yourself to unyielded amounts of beauty. These imprints that I leave behind are me, imperfect and entirely whole…

Hope you enjoyed the selection. Be sure and like and share this post to keep the inspiration going.

Meet Featured Artist Roger Ricketts born in Wolverhampton in 1947.

His love of art started from childhood and he would enjoy experimenting with different colours and shading.

By his twenties, he was painting ‘stills’, which included fruit, bottles and animals. When he became a father in his thirties, his art took a back seat (like so many artists experience), but he never lost his passion for art.

In his forties, he picked up the brush once again when he was inspired after visiting a famous Scottish castle.

After moving to Redditch and finally retiring from his day job in his sixties, he started to experiment with different styles of painting including new scenes and landscapes – mountains, boats and the ocean. Recently, he has begun to use resin in his works, which he feels gives his art greater depth, allowing him to elaborate his designs even more by being able to add layers which bring it to life and create a 3D effect.

The art that he now creates is broad and he enjoys painting different topics.

He has no fear when trying something new – over the years, he has used many different mediums from oils to pebeo to resins. His grandson designed and created a website for him, where he can display his artwork for people to browse online, which can be found here.

Roger has also recently started making coasters and keyrings from resin, which to display and sell along with paintings in local exhibitions throughout the year.

He is hopeful to continue experimenting with different types of art for many years to come, from his home “studio” in Redditch.

Classical Elements of Music Meet Abstract Art

Take a look at Artist John Roscigno’s abstract art work which has elements of melody, movement and energy.

John Roscigno is an acrylic / mixed media artists in Los Angeles, California. A relative new comer to the world of visual art, he spent much of his career as a classical musician and an orchestral conductor. While his works might be described as “abstract” he believe his works are exactly what they seem to be – a careful but sometimes improvisational blend of color, texture and movement based on personal emotion and inner energy.

John currently has over three hundred works. Many of his pieces are strictly acrylic with many incorporating creative use of the palette knife into the creation. Other works are mixed media, utilizing various Indian Inks, Gels, Gesso, and Salts to create depth of texture.

I don’t set out to produce art about one subject or another I just create the first thing that comes to mind.

This means I am always working on something. My hands are always busy otherwise I’m just not being me. I do not limit myself to one medium. My brain can’t focus on one thing at a time. So I may start off with a painting, then in the middle loose interest and then pick up wire and create something from that. I feel to me an artist you must not close yourself off but open yourself up to everything. I write poetry, paint, draw, sculpt, make jewelry, photography, photo manipulation and I’m sure the list will continue to grow.

I have never been to school for art, except for in high school. And even then I would take slight suggestions and still go about doing it my way. Especially when it came to figure drawing, I chopped of the heads and arms of our live models, I still to this day cannot draw any human in a realistic manner. Everything is abstract, I like the out of the box appeal to everyday life. I want you to see the same mundane everyday things in a new light and fall in love with them all over again.
