Sophia Din is our featured artist from Staffordshire, UK. Her style of work is created in watercolor and ink. According to Sophia, creating art is a meditative form for relieving stress. Her beautiful work has a melodic and botanical feel.

I am an ENT surgeon but Self taught when it comes to art. I only started drawing during the lockdown period and it became a daily exercise for me to dispel stress that came with my work. It’s been a learning journey. During the first lockdown everything slowed down and I recall hearing the birds which was not only meditative but hopeful. I’ve gravitated towards painting birds for the this reason.

Meet Featured Artist Stefan Bleekrode who works and lives in the north of Holland and has been a full time artist since 2012.

“On paper I recreate the cities I’ve seen travelling through Europe and North America. In my studio I minutely draw, based on memory and quick watercolour sketches famous and little known cities and towns in fine lines and carefully rendered watercolour washes. Already at the age of ten I began doing these drawings after I’d seen Paris.”

“Over the years my drawing style became ever more detailed and the range of place which captured my interest grew steadily. Also there’s an increased interest visible in perspective and light. Depending on the size of each piece, it takes from several weeks and up to a year or longer to finish a drawing.”

“Places I love to draw include London, New York, Venice, Budapest and Milan but also lesser known cities such as Ghent, Genoa, Naples and Bucharest. Currently I’m working on a 1.15 meter wide night view of Manhattan.”

Dan Knepper describes his work as; “realism in watercolor or oil as well as some very fun cartoon work that often ends up in children’s hospitals.”

The watercolors often depict children with famous works of art. .. sometimes poking fun at the art. For instance ‘Conversation Starter’ has a child smiling before her work on the easel. On closer inspection her brush is clean and the work on the easel is the $4.5 million ‘Mecca’ by Jean Michael Basquiat. Though the painting is an exact copy of his work… taken out of context, everyone who sees the painting assumes it to be the work of the child; Which Dan Knepper thinks says something about how we value art in context.
