Looking for original Bob Ross Paintings?

Bob Ross paintings have been discovered in a Warehouse in Virginia!

Did you know that Bob Ross painted over 30,000 paintings in his lifetime? However, if you want to buy a Bob Ross (authentic) painting, you can’t. A lot of people have tried. And many of these original paintings have been safely tucked away in boxes, unknown to most.

So many paintings inspired by Bob Ross – however no originals to be purchased are found.

An adventure by Aaron Byrd trying to buy an original Bob Ross painting led to a discovery. He tired auctions, galleries and online searches to no avail.

Bob Ross Paintings in Warehouse

Bob Ross Paintings in Boxes

His quest led him on a road trip to the company headquarters in Herndon, Virginia. Almost every painting created by Bob Ross are numerically stacked in cardboard boxes; over 1,000 landscapes, snow-capped peaks and happy little trees, all in a warehouse.

At this time none of Bob Ross paintings are for sale.

The video below tells the entire story.

Did you know Bob completed each painting 3 times? One before the show, one during the show and one after.

The Joy of Painting

Bob told the Orlando Sentinel in 1990: “The majority of our audience does not paint, has no desire to paint, will never paint.” Instead, the show’s appeal is more abstract. It’s less about the art lesson, and more about the mood: cozy, nurturing — an audio-visual pat on the back, coaxing the audience to try something new. For 22 minutes, at least, there’s no fear of failure. As Ross used to say, “We don’t make mistakes, we just have happy accidents.”

Everyone can paint!

According to Bob Ross.

All you need is a dream in your heart, and a little practice.

Fact 1: Bob Ross was in the Air Force before becoming an Art Instructor

Many have heard of Bob Ross and perhaps tuned into his show The Joy of Painting, an instructional television program that aired from 1983 to 1994 on PBS in the United States, and also aired in Canada, Latin America and Europe. His soothing voice, upbeat attitude and step by step instruction motivated and helped many to overcome the fear of painting.

Bob Ross enlisted in the US Air Force at age 17

Before Bob became a famous painter did you know he had a long military career in the Air Force? Ross discovered that he was able to earn more from selling his artwork and own branded art supply line than his position in the Air Force. Ross retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service, having the rank of Master Sergeant.

Fact 2: Happy Little Trees and Mountains – Inspired from Alaska

Bob Ross typically painted trees, mountains, lakes, snow, and log cabin scenes that were strongly influenced by his years living in Alaska, where he was stationed for the majority of his Air Force career.

Fact 3: Bob worked fast! Why the Fast Painting Technique?

His fast painting ‘technique’ started due to the short breaks in his work schedule during the day. He didn’t have enough time to work on landscapes leisurely. He had to work fast before his break ended! This fast painting of half an hour using a wet on wet technique would become central to his presentation on his TV show.

Fact 4: Bob painted over 30,000 paintings!

Through Bobs speed, and style he created 30,000 paintings in his lifetime. Sadly, Bob Ross died from lymphoma at the age 52, though through his speed

Fact 5: Bob painted a painting without a tree!

It’s estimated that 91 percent of Ross’ paintings contained at least one tree. Above is an unusual painting, Night Light, by Bob that does not contain a tree

Fact 6: Bob had Iconic Hair

Bob actually permed his own hair to keep an easy style he didn’t have to mess with. It evolved into a sort of iconic look for him. He wore the same look for years. Before he could change it back, though, the perm became his company’s logo — Ross hated it. “He could never, ever, ever change his hair, and he was so mad about that,” Kowalski says. “He got tired of that curly hair.”

Bob Ross was gentle soul who had a soothing voice that inspired many.

“The secret to doing anything is believing that you can do it. Anything that you believe you can do strong enough, you can do. Anything. As long as you believe.”
